Understanding how to frame the broader impacts of federally funded projects is the goal of a Sept. 23 workshop for UNL faculty, staff, postdocs and graduate students. Registration, available online, is required by Sept. 16.
The “National Science Foundation Broader Impacts Workshop,” hosted by the Office of Research and Economic Development in partnership with the National Science Foundation-funded National Alliance for Broader Impacts, is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nebraska Alumni Champions Club, 707 Stadium Drive. Seating is limited and the event is open to participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
The workshop is designed to help participants understand NSF’s broader impacts review criterion, improve the broader impacts component of their proposals and connect with local resources that support broader impacts activities. These skills are increasingly crucial as other federal sponsors, such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture, begin to place greater emphasis on education and outreach efforts.
The agenda features presentations from NABI steering committee members, an expert faculty panel and opportunities for networking and consultation. The event will take place in conjunction with SciComm 2016, a two-day conference at UNL focused on effective science communication.
