“Wonderstruck” opens at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center Nov. 17. Continuing to show are “The Florida Project” and “Goodbye Christopher Robin.”

Todd Haynes’s “Wonderstruck” is a coming-of-age drama that follows the parallel stories of two deaf children in different eras who travel to New York City in search of their idols.

Based on Brian Selznick’s critically acclaimed novel, Ben and Rose are children who secretly wish their lives were different. Ben longs for the father he has never known, while Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook.

When Ben discovers a puzzling clue in his home and Rose reads an enticing headline in the newspaper, both children set out on quests to find what they are missing.

“Wonderstruck,” which is rated PG for thematic elements and smoking, plays at the Ross through Nov. 23.

“The Florida Project” is an unforgettable poignant look at childhood.

This film is set on a stretch of highway jut outside the imagines utopia of Disney World. “The Florida Project” follows 6-year-old Moonee and her rebellious mother Hally over the course of a single summer. They live at “The Magic Castle,” a budget motel.

Despite Moonee’s harsh surroundings, she has no trouble making each day a celebration of life with her daily adventures. Unbeknownst to Moonee, however, her mother is forced to explore dangerous possibilities to provide for her daughter.

“The Florida Project,” which is rated R for language, disturbing behavior, sexual references and some drug material, will continue to show at the Ross through Nov. 23.

“Goodbye Christopher Robin” gives a rare glimpse into the relationship between beloved children’s author A. A. Milne and his son Christopher Robin, whose toys inspired the magical world of “Winnie the Pooh.”

Christopher Robin and his family are swept up in the international success of the books.

“Goodbye Christopher Robin,” which is rated PG for thematic elements, some bullying, war images and brief language, will continue to show at the Ross through Nov. 23.
