NET’s second season of “What If…” will feature the university-led TORUS project, along with other stories of Nebraskan innovation and creativity.

The series premieres at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 21 on NET, Nebraska’s PBS and NPR Stations.

In the first episode, producer and host Mike Tobias takes viewers along to chase tornadoes with the most ambitious drone-based investigation of severe storms and tornadoes ever conducted. Led by Nebraska’s Adam Houston, the TORUS project chased supercells for more than 9,000 miles across fives states during the summer of 2019.

The goal of the project was to collect high-resolution data about the formation of storms to improve forecasting for tornadoes and severe weather.

The “What If…” series, designed to explore innovation and creativity, follows visionaries who think outside the box in a wide range of areas like entrepreneurship, research, non-profits, education, economic development and more.
