The seventh biennial Vision Maker Film Festival will kick off with “Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World” at 7:30 p.m. April 20 at the Mary Riepma Media Arts Center.
The theme, “We Are All Related,” is a conceptual translation from the Lakota language, “Mitákuye Oyás’iŋ,” a commonly used expression indicating the Lakota’s relationships to each other and in the world.
The opening feature, “Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World,” explores how the Native American influence is an integral part of music history, despite attempts to ban, censor and erase its culture in the United States.
In total, more than 30 new films by diverse filmmakers from across the country will be showcased in the film festival. The films tell stories of social justice, hope and overcoming adversity.
Filmmakers will present and encourage dialogue to provide educational opportunities that benefit teachers, students and the public. Learn more about the series and films that will be featured.
