University of Nebraska–Lincoln to welcome thousands of students Aug. 16-19

Thousands of new and returning students will arrive on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s campuses Aug. 16-19 as the university officially kicks off Move-In 2026.

For the second consecutive year, Memorial Stadium will serve as the central check-in location for students participating in curbside move-in. The centralized process is designed to provide a smooth, welcoming arrival by allowing students and families to check in before heading to assigned residence halls.

Housing and Dining Services staff, student volunteers and campus partners will assist throughout move-in, greeting students, answering questions and helping families settle in. Curbside move-in crews will unload vehicles and deliver student belongings directly to residence hall rooms, allowing families to focus on the start of the academic year.

“For many students and families, move-in is their first experience on campus, so we want that welcome to feel distinctly Nebraska,” said Matt Nelson, director of Residence Life. “Memorial Stadium provides an iconic starting point while allowing us to create a smooth, organized move-in experience. We’re also grateful for the patience and support of the campus community as we welcome thousands of students. Those efforts help ensure every Husker gets off to a great start.”

Move-in marks the beginning of the academic year for students living in university housing and the start of Big Red Welcome, the university's annual series of events designed to help students build connections, discover campus resources and prepare for the first day of classes.

Faculty, staff and visitors should expect increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic around Memorial Stadium, residence halls and across campus during move-in and Big Red Welcome events. Temporary parking and traffic adjustments will be in place to accommodate student arrivals. Area A permit holders who park in the Memorial Loop lot can shift to the 14th and Avery Garage, 19th and Vine Street Garage or the non-reserved lots at 16th and W or 16th and X streets. Faculty and staff with reserved Area F03 permits and students with Area D01 permits should use the Nebraska Champions Club parking lot, west of Memorial Stadium. Faculty and staff with reserved Area F05 and students with Area D03 permits should continue to park in the assigned lot east of Hawks Hall, entering west from Vine Street, to avoid move-in traffic.
