The University of Nebraska system is working with Deloitte Consulting to conduct a systemwide assessment focused on strengthening alignment, coordination and long-term effectiveness.
In a July 24 message to faculty and staff, Dr. Jeffrey P. Gold, president of the University of Nebraska system, outlined the project and opportunities for faculty, staff and students to provide input.
The assessment builds on strategic initiatives, including the recent approval of joint accreditation between the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the University of Nebraska Medical Center, as well as the development of Operational Strategic Initiatives. Together, the efforts are intended to position the university for long-term success and advance its Odyssey to Extraordinary strategic plan.
Launched this spring through the Office of the President, the engagement with Deloitte will continue through 2026. Deloitte will assess the university’s current strengths, identify areas for improvement and evaluate how its structures, processes and resources support the university’s mission. The firm also will conduct a systemwide financial sustainability analysis and share best practices drawn from its work with colleges and universities nationwide.
Through the assessment, Deloitte will help NU system develop a clearer understanding of its operations, identify opportunities to improve decision-making and administrative effectiveness, assess shared services and organizational alignment, and evaluate how budgeting and resource allocation support institutional priorities and long-term financial sustainability.
“Deloitte’s role is to gather information, identify opportunities and present options for consideration,” Gold said in his July 24 message. “Any decisions resulting from this work will be made by university leadership through our established governance processes and with input from faculty, staff, students, alumni and the communities we serve.”
Additional opportunities for faculty, staff and students to provide input will continue into the fall. Community members are encouraged to share feedback through an online form available on the NU system website, which also includes details about the assessment.
