The School of Art, Art History and Design is hosting the sixth annual Nebraska National Undergraduate Juried Art Exhibition. The exhibition features the work of the best undergraduate student artists from across the country.
The Nebraska National Undergraduate Juried Art Exhibition continues through Oct. 20 in the Eisentrager•Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.
Each year, three different media disciplines are featured in the exhibition. This year’s show includes new media, painting and sculpture.
The juror for this year’s exhibition is art critic Robert Mahoney. Mahoney is a veteran New York City-based art critic. He currently manages his blog, is working on a book, “Exposures: 50 Works of Art that Changed My Life,” and writes for Flatlanders, a critical dialogue for Nebraska’s contemporary visual arts.
“I am always excited to work with undergrads because you are present at creation, at the development of a young talent into a genuine artist,” Mahoney said. “I looked for moments of genuine burgeoning artistry in every piece I included. This usually took the form of some sophisticated use of painterly or sculptural space, that created an effect that not only opened the work up to viewer receptivity, but intensified the emotional impact. All the works had that special something, and that is why they are in show. I congratulate all the artists who are in the show, and truly enjoyed musing on what they have to say about the world today.”
Huskers participating in the exhibition include Keith D. Buswell, Josh Castle, Hannah Deema, Shelby Freeling, Katherine Hedges, Haley Heesacker, Madeline Hinrichs, Miranda Knutson, Luis Martinez, Faraz Mohd, Lindsey Pinkerton, Daffnie Realpe, Thalia Rodgers, Cameron Scheele, Oria Simonini, Skylar Simpson, Keli Wheeler and Samantha Wicht. Other students with featured artworks are Alexandra Lane, Elaine Samsel and Joelle Sandfort of Nebraska Wesleyan University, and Elle Friedberg of Wellesley College of Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public. Hours are 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
