Student veteran organizations at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and University of Nebraska at Omaha teamed up to complete a Things They Carry Ruck March between Omaha and Lincoln during the week of Nov. 18. The event is intended to raise awareness about the mental health challenges facing veterans and the more than 6,000 veteran suicides each year.

As part of the event, participants carry 22 pounds or 22 items of personal significance to honor the service of friends or family. Participants in the Nebraska U event also walk a ceremonial game ball to Memorial Stadium for the Nov. 23 Husker football game with Wisconsin.

Pictures below are from Nov. 21, when members of the UNL Student Veteran Organization and other volunteers walked from Wabash to Eagle. The team will walk from Eagle to the Nebraska Union on Nov. 22 before delivering the game ball to Memorial Stadium on Nov. 23.
