The romance “Their Finest” and thriller “Colossal” films open April 28 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.
“Their Finest” is based on Lissa Evans’ novel “Their Finest Hour and a Half,” which takes place in 1940 London. Catrin, an untried screenwriter, and a makeshift cast and crew work under fire to make a film to lift the nation’s flagging spirits. Catrin partners with fellow screenwriter Buckley and actor Ambrose Hilliard to make a film that will warm the hearts of the nation and inspire America to join the war.
The film is rated R for some language and a scene of sexuality.
In “Colossal,” Gloria, played by Anne Hathaway, is an unemployed party girl who finds herself in relationship trouble with her sensible boyfriend. When she is forced to move to her hometown to get her life back on track, Gloria reconnects with her childhood friend Oscar. However, spending time with Oscar and his group of drinking buddies leads Gloria back to her drinking lifestyle.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, a larger-than-life creature begins attacking Seoul, South Korea, on a nightly basis. One night, Gloria is horrified to discover that her every move at a local playground is being mimicked on a catastrophic scale by the beast. When Gloria’s friends discover the bizarre phenomenon, a second creature emerges, prompting a showdown between the two monsters.
The film is rated R for language.
Both films will be showing at the Ross through May 11.
