A major update to Memorial Stadium will reduce parking availability on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s City Campus beginning this summer, with additional impacts expected into 2027.
The project — known as the Big Red Rebuild and approved by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents — will require both permanent and temporary parking displacements to accommodate construction staging and infrastructure upgrades.
The first changes take effect July 1, when the South Stadium lot will see a net loss of 98 spaces. The reduction includes most of the lot’s existing capacity as well as a small number of spaces near Avery Hall used for service access. Reserved, hourly and Building Systems Maintenance spaces will all be affected.
Additional temporary reductions will begin Aug. 23 near North Stadium, where 117 non-reserved spaces will be taken offline during construction.
The most significant temporary impact is scheduled Nov. 23, when all 286 spaces at 1001 and 1101 Y St. will be removed from use, eliminating perimeter parking in that area for the duration of the stadium project.
University officials said the changes are necessary to support long-term improvements to stadium facilities, circulation and accessibility. Faculty, staff and students who park on City Campus should expect reduced availability and are encouraged to plan ahead as construction progresses.
More information and updates will be provided by Parking and Transit Services.
