More than 2,100 students and nearly 300 employers are expected to take part in Nebraska’s annual spring career fairs, which begin Feb. 13.
Organized by Career Services, the career fairs offer students of all majors the opportunity to network with employers who are looking to fill internships and job openings. Each fair features a specific college or area of employment.
“The spring career fairs play an important role for students still seeking summer internships and seniors looking for positions ahead of graduation,” said Bill Watts, director of university advising and career services. “It’s also a great opportunity for students to build connections as they prepare for graduation in 2019 and beyond.”
New this year is the “Serve, Educate, Respond, Volunteer Fair,” 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 14 in the Nebraska Union. The event combines Nebraska’s annual Education Fair and the Public Service/Nonprofit Career Fair into a single offering for students.
The new configuration will allow students seeking education and public service jobs the opportunity to connect earlier with potential employers, building relationships that could lead to internships or jobs for after the 2018-2019 academic year.
The spring 2018 career fair schedule includes:
Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Career Fair, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 13, East Union.
Business and Liberal Arts Career Fair, 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 14, Pinnacle Bank Arena
STEM Career Fair, Pinnacle Bank Arena, 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 15, Pinnacle Bank Arena.
College of Architecture Career Fair, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Feb. 22 and 23, Architecture Hall, Room 210
Serve, Educate, Respond, Volunteer Fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 14, Nebraska Union Ballroom.
Career Services will offer a Success Studio during the career fairs at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Representatives from Career Services will be available in the Success Studio to assist students with tips, last-minute resume reviews and interview coaching.
“Team members will also be there to make sure students have the right look before they go talk to employers,” Watts said. “We want to be certain that our students have good knots on those ties, remove any lint and even fix hair in the event it’s windy outside.”
Shuttles will also be available to haul students between the Nebraska Union and Pinnacle Bank Arena. The shuttles operate from 12:30 to 5 p.m. and arrive about every 15 minutes.
A photographer will also be available to take professional head shots of student for free. The photographs will be taken at the career fairs at Pinnacle Bank Arena and the East Union.
