Edward Hopper, “Room in New York,” 1932, from the collection of Sheldon Museum of Art. David Lubin’s lecture on April 13 is titled “Edward Hopper and Classic American Cinema.” He will consider the cinematic qualities and themes of Hopper’s art.
Nebraska’s “Room in New York,” an Edward Hopper painting included in Sheldon Museum of Art’s collection, is currently featured in the “Edward Hopper’s New York,” an exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
The exhibition features an inclusive look at Hopper’s life and work, from early impressions of New York City in sketches, prints and illustrations, to his most well-known paintings that capture the urban experience. By using New York as a primary lens, the exhibition offers a fresh look at the iconic artist and how NYC served as a lead actor in the artworks.
