The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is transitioning all summer courses to remote access learning due to the ongoing 2019 novel coronavirus pandemic.
The change was announced by Elizabeth Spiller, the university’s new executive vice chancellor, in April 3 emails sent to students, faculty and staff. The decision follows the cancellation of summer travel, some internship and other university-sponsored opportunities for students.
“Given the uncertainty in the months ahead, the university will be continuing with remote learning for summer session undergraduate , graduate and professional courses,” Spiller said. “Previously scheduled online courses will continue as planned.”
To help students continue their path toward graduation, the university is working to expand remote access summer course options and developing alternative academic opportunities. Spiller said a call for proposals will be issued to campus instructors.
“I hope that faculty who have creative ideas for student learning will consider submitting a proposal,” Spiller said.
Students who have enrolled in in an in-person summer course should receive notice that the class is canceled. Additional information regarding the expanded slate of remote access summer courses will be announced.
