Registration open, abstracts needed for regional ASM meeting in March

Fall 2025 UNL Microbiology Research Symposium Poster Presenters along sponsorship tables.

Student presenters mingle with sponsor tables at the Microbiology Research Symposium.

The Missouri Valley Branch of the American Society for Microbiology will meet March 13-14 at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

The annual meeting brings together microbiologists from Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and neighboring states for oral and poster presentations. Registration is open until the meeting (early, discounted registration closes March 1). Register here.

The meeting is, in part, designed for undergraduate and graduate student researchers who seek to gain experience presenting their research. Students can give a short oral or poster presentation; awards will be given to the top presenters. All faculty, staff, students, and community members are encouraged to present. Abstracts are due Feb. 1.

The meeting will feature Shaun Brinsmade, a distinguished lecturer with the society. It will also include several prominent local microbiology researchers and presentations by students from the region.

Brinsmade is Provost’s Distinguished Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Georgetown University. His laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms of Staphylococcus aureus virulence through the lens of nutrient sufficiency, and includes transcriptional, post-transcriptional and post-translational mechanisms.
