UNL’s Campus Rec Center, 841 N. 14th St., will be opening its new strength training and conditioning room Oct. 8.
The renovation was a project of the “YES 2 Better Rec Center’s” referendum approved by students in 2010.
“We’re super excited to provide this space to students,” said Christopher Dulak, director for marketing and communications at the Rec Center. “I look at how many people are working out even today and know that will carry over with the renovation.”
The room will contain more than 110 new strength machines and equipment, along with 27 new cardio pieces.
The space has also been renovated with a new air-handling system for less humidity and sweat smells. It will have new flooring, new entrances and windows and more vibrant colors, including scarlet, cream and white.
Sixteen new cardio machines will also be added to Cardio Zone 2, which will bring the Rec Center’s total cardio count to 81, spread amongst six areas on three levels.
Equipment includes treadmills, ellipticals, powermills, stair climbers, bikes, AMT trainers and rowers.
Costs for the renovation totaled $1.4 million for construction and $613,000 for new exercise equipment.
