The University of Nebraska system will launch a unified Canvas learning management system across all campuses beginning with fall 2026 courses. Faculty gained access on March 23.
The Canvas Convergence project, led by David Jackson, interim executive vice president and provost, and supported by NU Information Technology Services, will bring together systems at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, University of Nebraska at Omaha, University of Nebraska at Kearney and University of Nebraska Medical Center into a single, shared system. The change is designed to improve the experience for students, faculty and academic leaders who use the system.
Faculty can now begin building fall 2026 courses in the new system. Course materials from recent terms also will be available, with six semesters of content being migrated. Materials from fall 2024 and spring, summer and fall 2025 are currently being copied, while spring and summer 2026 courses will be added about two weeks after each term concludes.
Courses underway in spring and summer 2026 will remain in existing campus-specific Canvas systems and will not be affected by the transition. Faculty who need materials from earlier terms may request assistance from the ITS technical team or use a self-service option to move additional content.
Expanded support will be available for faculty using the new system, including email assistance, in-person appointments across campuses and weekday Zoom drop-in sessions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for real-time help.
