The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will hold a series of pollinator-related talks and tours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 3.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will focus on pollinator life cycles, preferred plants and ways to attract them to home gardens. It will include tours led by staff from the university’s departments of agronomy and horticulture and entomology, Backyard Farmer, Nebraska Forest Service and Nebraska Statewide Arboretum.
From 10 a.m. to noon there will be free herbal tea and, for kids, pollinator activities, face painting and make-your-own antennae. The events, all of which are on East Campus, include:
9 a.m., tour of “Nebraska by Heart” art installations, 1700 East Campus Mall
10 a.m., tour of the Backyard Farmer garden, 1825 N. 38th St.
11 a.m., tour of Maxwell Arboretum, 1825 N. 38th St.
Noon, brown-bag discussion on monarch butterflies led by Shauna Groenewold, citizen scientist and monarch enthusiast, 150 Keim Hall
2 p.m., tour of Union Plaza, 2228 N. 21st St.
The pollinator event is part of a Community as Habitat grant funded by the Nebraska Enviornmental Trust. It is sponsored by the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum.
