Amal Kassir
Award-winning spoken word artist and lecturer Amal Kassir will speak at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Nebraska Union Auditorium.
Kassir will discuss activism, social justice and leadership. She has conducted workshops, given lectures and recited poetry in more than 100 cities in 10 countries, in venues ranging from refugee camps to universities.
Kassir was born and raised in Denver to a German-American mother and Syrian father. She spent years on her grandmother’s farm in Syria. She has lost 31 relatives to airstrikes, chemical attacks, explosions and other chaos.
The event, sponsored by UPC Nebraska and the Honors Program, is free for students with a valid NCard and $5 for faculty, staff and the public.
