Two female-led comedies, both documenting candid struggles in love, loss, and the workplace, open Oct. 12 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

Pinsky

Winner of Best Narrative Feature at the 2017 Santa Fe Independent Film Festival, “Pinsky” follows 26 year-old Sophia as her life is turned upside down by a breakup, her grandfather’s death, and a move back into her Russian grandmother’s apartment. The new living situation leads to a comical turn: her grandmother is determined to find Sophia, a gay woman, a husband. To deal with the stresses of her new life, Sophia turns to stand-up comedy, an activity which gives her the courage to face her family differences head on.

Director Amanda Lundquist and actor Rebecca Karpovsky will appear at the opening night of “Pinsky” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 for a question and answer session with the audience.

Support The Girls

“Support The Girls” details the journey of Lisa Conroy, the general manager at a highway-side “sports bar with curves,” as she oversees a group of waitresses. The film combines themes of sisterhood, social commentary, and humor as the characters struggle with money, love, and life working at the bar.

The Motion Picture Association of America has rated “Support The Girls” R for language, including sexual references, and brief nudity.
