The appointment was announced April 13 by Chancellor Ronnie Green.
Pearce has served as interim associate to the chancellor since Aug. 20, 2021. He has been an administrator and instructor in the College of Law since 2014, most recently as assistant dean for student affairs and administration.
“I look forward to Marc’s thoughtful leadership continuing to guide our Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance,” Green said. “His background in social psychology and the law, as well as his dedication to students, faculty and staff, will help the office continue to meet the needs of our campus community.”
Along with serving as director of the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance, the position oversees university compliance with affirmative action, equal opportunity, civil rights and higher education laws — including Title IX, Title VII and the Americans with Disabilities Act — and other federal and state laws. The position works directly with senior leadership to guarantee the university offers an ethical work environment free from all forms of discrimination and harassment.
The position directs administrative functions and operations of the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance. It is responsible for leading 12 staff employees, including the university’s Title IX coordinator and Americans with Disabilities Act/504 Compliance officer.
“Our Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance strives to instill in our community a sense of accountability to legal responsibilities, integrity, and respect for civil rights,” Pearce said. “I’m excited to be a part of this team of outstanding professionals and together we will continue to support our entire university community.”
A Nebraska graduate, Pearce served as a law clerk to Warren K. Urbom, senior United States district court judge, for nearly 14 years.
Before joining the College of Law as assistant dean in 2014, Pearce served there as an adjunct instructor for legal writing for four years. Pearce has several years of experience teaching undergraduate psychology and litigation courses at the University of Nebraska and other institutions.
Pearce is a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association and American Psychological Association. He graduated from Nebraska’s College of Law in 1999 and earned a doctorate in social psychology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2008.
