January’s shows:
Paul Shaffer and the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra, Jan. 10, 7:30 p.m. — Shaffer served as David Letterman’s musical director for 33 years. He was also a featured performer and composer for “Saturday Night Live” and musical director for the Blues Brothers — Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. He will share stories from his career and perform hits such as “Walk on the Wild Side,” “Sweet Home Chicago” and “Soul Man” on Jan. 10.
“The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favorites,” Jan. 17, 7 p.m. — Creative puppetry, innovative black-light staging and an original score bring new life to Carle’s classics for kids of all ages. The title tale follows a caterpillar on his life journey, with vibrant scenery and colorful foods. FamFest — featuring free food and fun, educational activities — precedes the performance at 5:30 p.m.
“Broadway Princess Party,” Jan. 19, 7:30 p.m. — Top Broadway stars, and former Broadway princesses, unite for an evening celebrating music from timeless fairy tales as well as the latest hits of stage and screen. The concert will feature Laura Osnes (Cinderella, “Cinderella”) Courtney Reed (Jasmine, “Disney’s Aladdin”) and Susan Egan (Belle, “Beauty and the Beast”).
Susan Werner, Jan. 25, 7:30 p.m. — The singer-songwriter returns to Lincoln after sold-out shows across the country to perform music from her latest album, “An American in Havana.” Inspired by Werner’s recent travels to Cuba, the album features arrangements by Cuban percussionist Mayra Casales, along with Werner’s trademark songcraft and wry, poetic lyrics.
“Lifted”: Rennie Harris Puremovement, Jan. 26, 7:30 p.m. — This hip-hop dance theatre company will perform a program combining gospel music and hip-hop culture, exploring contemporary issues of community and spirituality. Loosely based on Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist,” “Lifted” follows a young black man who is surrounded and supported by his church community.
