A panel discussion on critical literacies will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. March 16 in Love Library South, Room 218. This panel will explore critical literacies for our current mass information age, including visual literacy, news literacy, global literacy and information literacy.
Panelists will discuss the literacies that are crucial to our students’ abilities to solve problems, make sense of the world and engage as citizens in their many communities, as well as literacy practices that move students to critically question and challenge received narratives and norms.
The panel will focus especially on these literacies as they relate to the teaching, learning and research of undergraduate students.
The panelists are:
Alison Head, founder and director of Project Information Literacy and UNL Libraries’ 2017 Visiting Scholar
Rumiko Handa, professor of architecture and interim associate dean of the College of Architecture
Emira Ibrahimpasic, assistant director of global studies
Gary Kebbel, professor of journalism and mass communication and founder of NU Center for Mobile Media
Carrie Morgan, curator of academic programs at the Sheldon Museum of Art
