October creates an atmosphere that brings frightful fun, fall favorites and a new month full of activities. Here are some different ways this month to spend time supporting — and celebrating with — the Husker community.
The Ross’ Fright Fest | The Ross
Various times, Oct. 1–25
The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center’s annual Fright Fest features a lineup of scary films for the Halloween season. All month long, showings of classic movies like "Psycho" and "The Shining," as well as newer thrillers like "Paranormal Activity" and "Train to Busan," will take place at the theater.
Tickets are $5 per show for university students and are available for purchase online and at the Ross box office.
Student Night will feature special showings of "Leviticus" and "It Follows" on Oct. 21. Tickets are $1 for University of Nebraska–Lincoln students, only available at the box office.
A festival pass is also available, which provides discounted admission to any five of the featured films. General admission passes are $40 (a $50 value), and passes for Ross members and university students are $20 (a $25 value).

The Big Event | Lincoln

Abbott Blood Drive | On Campus
Various times until Dec. 4
The Abbott We Give Blood Drive continues into October. Huskers are asked to spend the season rolling up their sleeves to save lives and help the university claim the top spot for most blood donations in the Big Ten Conference.
Participants can attend campus donor events or log donations at participating centers by visiting bigten.org/abbott/ any time before Dec. 4.
The next campus event is 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 1 at Nebraska Union.
Greek Street Trick-or-Treat and Little Monster Mash | On Campus
Late October, exact date to be determined
Both of these campus classics invite the Lincoln community to enjoy an evening of Halloween tricks and treats.
For families with kids, come to campus dressed in your favorite costumes, collect treats from different sororities and fraternities, and have a great family-friendly night of fun.
Then, wind down with some Halloween-themed arts and crafts at the Little Monster Mash. This event will take place in The Crib at the Nebraska Union. Dates for the events will be released closer to Halloween.
Full Moon Float | Outdoor Adventures Center
Oct. 26, 6 to 9 p.m.
Wrap up the month with a unique night on the water with the Outdoor Adventure Center. Paddle across the lake under the glow of October’s full moon for a relaxing evening complete with great views and even better company.
