The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Department of Physics and Astronomy will host an open house from 7 to 10 p.m. Nov. 11 at Behlen Observatory, 35 miles northeast of Lincoln, near Mead. The event is free and open to the public.
If weather permits, attendees will be able to view the moon, Mars, Uranus and many star clusters through various telescopes. Society of Physics students will perform science demonstrations. Cover band Fluffy Psycho Bunnies, consisting of physics staff members, also will perform throughout the evening.
“The public night coincides with the peak of the Northern Taurids meteor shower,” said Shawn Langan, lab manager and instructor in physics and astronomy. “So if skies are clear, we hope to see up to 10 meteors per hour by the end of the event.”
