Sue Roush

Sue Roush, 59, of York, former director of marketing and communications for the College of Journalism and Mass Communication, died Jan. 27.

Roush was born July 7, 1960 to Elton and Orlia (Glover) Morris in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

She served as deputy communications director for Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman from 2011 to 2014. Roush was a long-time employee of York College, serving in various roles from 1998 to 2011, including director of alumni and community relations.

Her extensive career as a media strategist and professor of marketing included teaching roles at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Concordia University and Nebraska Wesleyan University.

“Sue was a passionate professional who was committed to her craft and dedicated to serving our students,” said Amy Struthers, interim dean of journalism and mass communication. “She served the college in many ways over the years — as a student, staff member, teacher, mentor and friend.

“Her presence in our college and impact on our students will be sorely missed.”

As a community advocate, Roush made a mark as founder of Women of York; former president of the United Way and Yorkshire Playhouse; York Chamber of Commerce ambassador; and board member with the Nebraska Arts Council and American Heart Association. She was also a member of Lifewalk Church in York.

Roush is survived by her husband, Clark Roush; sons Mitchell (Marissa) Roush and Matthew (Renee) Roush; granddaughter, Sofia Roush; sister-in-law, Karen (Doug) Kostowski; and countless friends and loved ones.

A celebration of life is 10 a.m. Feb. 1 at the York Country Club, 1016 W. Elm St., York, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Yorkshire Playhouse in Roush’s honor. No viewing or visitation is planned
