David Bruce Taylor, adjunct professor emeritus of entomology and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Medical Entomology, died Aug. 6 in Lincoln. He was 71.
David was born Feb. 19, 1955, to Lloyd and Nancy (Kiebler) Taylor in South Bend, Indiana. He attended Washington High School in South Bend, graduating in 1977. He earned a doctoral degree in medical entomology from the University of Notre Dame.
Taylor worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service, investigating New World screwworm (Cochliomyia homnivorax) and stable fly (Stomoxys calcitrans). He joined Nebraska’s entomology faculty in 1992, retiring after the fall 2019 semester. He was also an American Orchid Society certified orchid judge and was active in the Omaha Orchid Society.
Taylor is survived by his wife, Lorraine Leiser; sons, Benjamin (Whitney) and Brian (Claire); grandchildren Arthur, Almarinda and Annadora; brother, Stephen (Suzette); and sister, Katherine.
A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Dec. 5 at Roper and Sons’ South Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive in Lincoln, with luncheon to follow.
