The Social and Behavioral Sciences Research Consortium is partnering with the Office of Research and Economic Development to host an informal brown-bag discussion on new National Institutes of Health review criteria focused on the reproducibility of research findings through increased scientific rigor and transparency. The discussion is 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 12 in the Nebraska Union Colonial Room.
University of Nebraska-Lincoln investigators who plan to submit applications to NIH are invited to attend. No formal registration is required, and attendees are welcome to bring a lunch.
The new NIH review criteria focus on four areas: scientific premise, scientific rigor (design), biological variables and authentication. Investigators submitting applications to NIH must now address each area within a grant application, and review panels are evaluating these areas during proposal review.
The event will feature a panel of NIH investigators with recent panel review experience discussing the guidance they have received from NIH about the new criteria.
