The deep, unwavering connection between Nebraskans and their flagship, land-grant university is the focus of a new University of Nebraska–Lincoln television commercial.

The “Home Again” spot is framed around the theme that Huskers “carry our home with us wherever we go,” illustrating how the iconic red “N” symbolizes more than a university and serves as the cornerstone in communities statewide. From launching small businesses and space-ready robots to inspiring generations on the courts and in Nebraska’s farm fields, the commercial captures the essence of the university’s influence across the state.

"Home Again," the new national advertisement promoting the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

“This is a celebration of Nebraska and captures the essence of our university’s impact on the state and its residents,” said Jim Coll, UNL’s chief communication and marketing officer. “This institutional ad is a heartfelt reminder of the pride and community that defines us, and it underscores how UNL continues to inspire and support our people, no matter where their journeys take them.”

The heart of the spot is its soundtrack, which features the timeless voice of Johnny Carson, a 1949 Nebraska U graduate and celebrated late-night TV host. Carson’s nostalgic reflections on his Nebraska roots — which were featured in his 1982 NBC special “Johnny Goes Home” — provide a backdrop that reinforces the foundational links between the university and state.

Carson, who died in 2005, and his Carson Foundation have been dedicated supporters of the university, contributing more than $38 million. The legacy of Carson is honored through the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film and the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts.

“Home Again” breaks the mold followed by many universities, which use outside agencies for commercials. The spot was produced in-house, led by Aaron Nix, director of video; Matthew Strasburger, copy writer/visual content associate; and using talents from the University Communication and Marketing team. It features Husker students, faculty, staff, alumni, supporters and stakeholders. And, it was shot in multiple locations, from Nebraska’s celebrated Sandhills to the streets of Omaha.

The “Home Again” spot premiered on ESPN2 during Husker volleyball’s Aug. 27 season opener with Kentucky. It will continue to be featured as part of national and regional broadcasts of Husker athletics and during Big Ten Network programming. It is also available online to review and share.
