Nebraska U programs earn top spots for online master’s degrees

Master's in Engineering Management earns first-time ranking; MBA program No. 4 nationwide for veterans

Three University of Nebraska–Lincoln colleges have earned national recognition, with their online master’s degree programs ranked among the best in the 2025 U.S. News and World Report rankings.

Announced Jan. 21, the ranked online programs in the College of Business, College of Engineering and College of Education and Human Sciences are:

  • No. 4 in Best Online Master’s in Engineering Programs for Veterans;
  • No. 11 (tie) in Best Online Master’s in Engineering Management Programs;
  • No. 22 in Best Online Master of Business Administration Programs for Veterans;
  • No. 29 (tie) in Best Online Master of Business Administration;
  • No. 35 (tie) in Best Online Master’s in Business Programs (excluding MBA); and
  • No. 97 (tie) in Best Online Master’s in Education Programs.

This is the first year the university’s Master of Engineering Management program has been included in the ranking, coming in at No. 11. To be included, a university must receive at least five ratings from peer institutions and be ranked in the main online engineering listings.

“It is, indeed, a great honor to join other prestigious and reputable institutions ranked in this category,” said Jena Asgarpoor, director of the program. “We are excited for the validation from our peers with expertise in engineering management who recognize the quality and value of our MEM program.

“We have created and continue to expand a quality engineering management graduate degree of value for our alumni and other practicing professionals worldwide.”

The program maintained its highly ranked positions in two other categories — No. 5 in the Overall Best Online Master’s in Engineering Programs, and No. 4 in Best Online Master’s In Engineering Programs for Veterans.

The College of Business’ online Master of Business Administration program, which has roots in a 1960s partnership with Offutt Air Force Base, also is No. 24 among the nation’s public institutions and moved up two spots to No. 22 for veterans in the U.S. News and World Report rankings.

Nebraska Business also ranked No. 27 for best online business master’s programs among public institutions for its three Master of Science programs in business analytics, finance and supply chain management.

“Our MBA program celebrated 60 years this fall, and these U.S. News and World Report rankings exemplify the investment we continue to make in our program,” said Kathy Farrell, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business. “We have prioritized offering a high quality and affordable MBA and Master of Science programs that meet the needs of our students and employers.

“The high rankings also are a testament to our students and alumni, who lead the future of business around the world and underscore the dedication of our faculty and staff who personalize the experience for each student’s success.”

Online master’s programs in education fields earned a near-perfect 94 in the U.S. News and World Report rankings for faculty credentials and training. The total reflects how well the university prepares instructors to lead online teaching. Coursework features faculty who are experienced in curriculum and instruction, special education and educational administration.
