The University of Nebraska—Lincoln has joined six universities in the Big Ten Academic Alliance to provide expanded online course offerings.
Through this new program, Nebraska undergraduates can take one online course from another participating Big Ten school each semester as part of their academic experience with all tuition and fees waived.
Together, Big Ten universities educate more than 600,000 students with almost 50,000 faculty. During the past spring, member universities kept students on track for graduation, quickly moving tens of thousands of courses online and graduating many thousands of students on time, despite the global pandemic.
“We know COVID-19 has limited the educational experiences available to students this year and this initiative opens doors for academic opportunities across the Big Ten,” Elizabeth Spiller, executive vice chancellor, said. “We are committed to doing what we can for our students in this unprecedented moment.”
A wide variety of courses will be offered, including Supply Chain Security and Risk Management; Design Thinking and Creativity; Inequality: Determinants and Policy Remedies; Insect Biology; Introduction to the Built Environment; and Introduction to Sports Marketing and Management.
Courses offered by Nebraska to students at other participating universities include Anthropology of the Great Plains; Engineering Economics; and People and the Land.
Also in the inaugural cohort of participating Big Ten universities are Indiana University, University of Maryland, Michigan State University, Ohio State University, Pennsylvania State University, and Rutgers University-New Brunswick.
Nebraska students interested in courses at other universities in the program can find more information on the BTAA website.
