Nebraska has implemented a new campus mobility policy to provide direction to the university community on the permitted use of various types of transportation.
The policy strives to increase safety for all on campus, including pedestrians and those on bikes, scooters, mopeds, skateboards and roller skates.
Certain areas of City and East campuses have been designated as pedestrian priority zones. The zones dictate that all riders, with the exception of wheelchair users and users of other mobility devices prescribed by licensed physicians, dismount while passing through the area.
The requirement to dismount while in pedestrian priority zones is limited to the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.
Pedestrian priority zones include:
City Campus
- Union Plaza
- East-west corridor running from Union Plaza to Hamilton Hall. North-South riders must slow and yield to all pedestrian traffic.
East Campus
- Center Street from Arbor Drive to the East Campus Mall/Entomology Hall
The policy also outlines that all transportation devices stay at least three feet away from pedestrians at all times.
