The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center will continue the 10th Vision Maker Film Festival and Native American Film Series with a screening of “Reservation Redemption” at 7:20 p.m. Aug. 10. The screening will include a conversation with the film’s directors.
The documentary tells the story of "Chief" Marchand Rice, who was sentenced to life in prison as a teenager and later transformed his life through cultural connection, leadership and a commitment to healing and giving back. The film explores themes of redemption, identity and the power of personal transformation.
Following the screening, directors Brenda Fisher and Blake Pickens will participate in a question-and-answer session moderated by Georgiana Lee. The discussion will explore the making of “Reservation Redemption” and the story behind the film.
The screening is part of the Ross’ Native American Film Series, which features films and television programs from the Vision Maker Media public broadcasting archives. The series highlights stories by and about Native communities and is presented by The Ross Media Arts Center, Vision Maker Media and Friends of The Ross.
The Native American Film Series offers opportunities for audiences to engage with Native filmmakers and storytellers while exploring the diverse experiences, histories and contemporary issues of Native communities.
