National search for College of Business dean begins

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has officially launched a national search for its next College of Business dean.

A 16-member committee made up of faculty, staff, administrators and college stakeholders has been formed to guide the search.

The group is chaired by Richard Moberly, dean of the University of Nebraska College of Law. Committee members include Samantha Fairclough, assistant professor of practice of management and the associate director for the college’s Center for Entrepreneurship; Alok Kumar, associate director of marketing; Jake Messersmith, associate professor of management and executive director of the college’s graduate programs; Jenna Pieper, assistant professor of management; Jennifer Ryan, professor and chair of the Department of Supply Chain Management and Analytics; David Smith, professor of accountancy; Eric Thompson, associate professor of economics and director of the college’s Bureau of Business Research; Megan Friesen, assistant director of academic success and advising for the college; Rachel Larson, director of career services for the college; Tyrell Ross, the college’s assistant financial manager; Tyrone Fahie, internal API product manager for TD Ameritrade and board member of the Young Alumni Advisory Board; Yijia Lin, professor of finance; Lisa Smith, senior vice president of D.A. Davidson and Co. and member of the Dean’s Advisory Board; Joel Bugayong, graduate student; and Greg Dittman, undergraduate student.

The dean will join the university at a pivotal moment in the institution’s history and in the college’s trajectory. Nebraska Business has experienced unprecedented enrollment growth since 2010. In the past seven years, 90 new faculty and 40 new staff have joined the college. Signature programs such as a Business Honors Academy and the world’s largest strengths lab in the Clifton Strengths Institute were created. The dean will have the opportunity to define and implement a strategic vision of an energetic faculty, staff and student population.

The dean reports directly to the executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer. The search committee will begin reviewing candidates Oct. 5 and will continue until the position is filled. Learn more about the search.
