As the calendar flipped to 2020, First-Year Experience and Transition Programs became the Center for Academic Success and Transition. The name change reflects the unit’s focus on supporting all undergraduates’ academic success.
“This name change has been a long time coming, and we’re really excited about it,” Lori Romano, director of CAST, said. “We kept hearing how reluctant students were to visit our office because they weren’t necessarily first-year students. Our new name makes it clear that we’re here to support all students at Nebraska. Students are the stars of their stories. Our job is to be part of their strong supporting cast.”
Located in Love Library South 127, CAST is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students can schedule appointments online through MyPLAN, by calling 402-472-1880, or by visiting the LLS 127 front desk. The CAST Academic Success Coaches work with students on everything from time management and test preparation to note-taking, homesickness, and everything in between.
In addition to providing individual academic success coaching sessions and weekly academic success workshops, students can take advantage of free tutoring Monday through Thursday nights, 5-9 p.m., in the Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons, next to Dunkin’ Donuts. Faculty, staff and student leaders can also request presentations as part of a course, scheduled meetings or special events by submitting a presentation request form here.
