A German science fiction romance that follows a scientist participating in an extraordinary experiment to fund her own studies opens Oct. 8 at Nebraska’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. Continuing to show is “Mogul Mowgli.”
“I’m Your Man” features Maren Eggert as Alma, a scientist who for three weeks has to live with a humanoid robot tailored to her character and needs. The robot, Tom (played by Dan Stevens of “Downton Abbey”), is a machine in human form and in a class of its own, created to be Alma’s perfect life partner.
The film is a humorous tale about the questions of love, longing and what makes a human being human.
Directed by Maria Schrader, “I’m Your Man” is adapted from Emma Braslavsky’s short story, “Ich bin dein Mensch.” The film, which is rated R for language and some sexual content, shows through Oct. 21.
The drama “Mogul Mowgli” features Riz Ahmed as a British Pakistani rapper battling an illness.
On the brink of his first international tour, Zed (played by Ahmed) opts to fly home to the United Kingdom and visit family he has not seen in two years. As he works to reconnect with his parents, Zed is struck down by an autoimmune disease. When his condition worsens, threatening his breakthrough moment, he falls into a physical and emotional crisis amplified by surreal hallucinations.
“Mogul Mowgli,” which is not rated, is the debut narrative feature by Bassam Tariq, an award-winning documentary filmmaker. It shows at the Ross through Oct. 14.
