Live performances have returned to the Lied Center for Performing Arts, but the venue’s online and mobile programming continue. Here’s what’s on tap for October.

Lied Learning Online

Students of all ages are invited to learn from home with the Lied Center’s Lied Learning Online series.

In October, participants can go inside New York’s Fashion Week, have a spooky yoga adventure, learn about the art of voice-over and meet a talented young pianist.

All events are available on the Lied Center’s Facebook page and website.

The schedule:

  • Lunch and Learn: “Inside the Art of Fashion with Brittany Hampton,” Oct. 6, noon — New York Fashion Week is coming to the Lied Center as this month’s episode of the Lunch and Learn video podcast rolls out the red carpet for “House of DVF” fashionista, designer and influencer Brittany Hampton. After winning the first season of the E! reality show, Hampton became the first global brand ambassador for the luxury lifestyle brand Diane Von Furstenberg. She will discuss her creative outlook on the fashion industry, award-winning career as a stylist and how her identity has shaped her into a leading voice and personality in the world of design.

  • Master Classes at the Lied: Voice-Over Acting, Oct. 18, noon to 1:30 p.m. — This Zoom master class for students 11-18 will be an introduction to the art of voice-over acting, led by Lied Center teaching artist Sasha Dobson. Students will be introduced to what it means to be a voice-over artist in commercials and animation, discover and develop how to bring their own personality to the work and learn tips and tricks for creating a successful career. No preparation is required — just a willingness to try something new.

  • Tiny Lieders: “Magnificent Monsters: Yoga, Movement and Music,” Oct. 22, 10 a.m. — This series is specifically for the Lied’s youngest patrons, and this month’s program will get participants in the Halloween spirit with a not-so-spooky, fun-filled morning with monster friends. Ashley Laverty, artistic director for Kerfuffle theater company, will lead a 45-minute movement, music and yoga jam designed for children under age 6.

  • Huskers in the Spotlight: Sean Lebita, piano, Oct. 27, noon — Lebita, an award-winning junior piano performance major at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, will give a virtual performance. In 2018, he won the Young Artist Award at the Music Teachers National Association of Collegiate Artists in Piano Competition, advancing to the West Central Division Competition. He frequently collaborates with the Prism Jazz Trio and the UNL Graduate Jazz Combo and serves as the pianist at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lincoln. His original jazz compositions and piano covers can be found on Twitch and Instagram.

Lied Live Online

Lied Live Online launched just two weeks after COVID-19 forced the first cancellation of a Lied Center show in March. Six months and nearly 20 concerts later, it’s still bringing live virtual concerts to Lincoln and beyond.

The Bolzen Beer Band will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 4. This Lincoln-based band takes traditional German music and injects pure adrenaline to create a unique punk polka sound. Dave Socha and Brian Brazier have become fan favorites at Husker football games with their rowdy style, perfect for the tailgate scene. They have gone on to perform at beer festivals, German festivals and other events across the Midwest, Texas and Europe, including being the first American band to play the 700-year-old Gillamoos festival in Germany. The band has played over 200 shows in the last two years in the U.S. and Europe.

Lied Live Online is available to watch on the Lied Center Facebook page, website and LNKTV Education Channel — Allo channel 23, Charter Spectrum channel 1303 and Windstream Kinetic channel 1080.
