Kawasaki Reading Room to host spring celebration

Study Studio is available on the second floor of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center.

The Kawasaki Reading Room will hold “Setsubun: Mamemaki,” a Japanese bean-throwing ceremony, at 2 p.m. Jan. 31 in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center Room 302.

The Japanese bean-throwing ritual takes place during Setsubun, a festival that celebrates the end of winter and the start of spring. The ritual’s purpose is to drive away evil spirits and bad luck, welcoming good fortune.

The event is open to the campus community.
