Solar eclipse expert Kate Russo will deliver a free public talk at 7:30 p.m. June 19 in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Henzlik Hall.

Russo is an author, psychologist and eclipse chaser who has seen and documented 10 total solar eclipses. She has published three books on those experiences, including the latest, “Being in the Shadow.”

Lincoln will experience its first total solar eclipse in more than 500 years on Aug. 21. Russo will discuss the importance of total eclipses and what to expect during the upcoming event.

Russo’s talk is part of Hyde Memorial Observatory’s public education and outreach efforts related to the eclipse. The Lincoln observatory, which is at Holmes Park, opened in 1977 and is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
