Information Technology Services has partnered with an outside company to offer portable device charging at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Through the fall semester, Oomf portable chargers are being offered free of charge. The chargers are available at “PowerHouse” locations in the Nebraska Union, East Union, Campus Recreation centers, Henzlik Hall, Adele Hall Learning Commons in Love Library, and the 501 Building Help Center. When finished with the devices, users return the chargers to a campus PowerHouse location.
“We saw a need for students to charge their mobile devices throughout the day,” said Casadi Johnson, Huskertech store manager. “But we also saw the need for them to stay on the move while doing so. People don’t want to be stuck at an outlet or kiosk while they charge their device. This option allows complete mobility and convenience.”
Though Huskertech is covering the initial rental fee during the pilot program, users will remain responsible for the $5 late fee accessed to devices not returned during the 24-hour rental period. After the pilot program this semester, users will pay $5 per month for unlimited rentals.
