University of Nebraska-Lincoln students are heading toward the finish line of their annual Children’s Hospital and Medical Center fundraiser, the Dance Marathon.
Participants are gathering donations for the HuskerThon, a 12-hour dance and activity event beginning at noon Feb. 16 in the Nebraska Union’s Centennial Room. Dance Marathon is the largest student-driven philanthropic event on campus, and has raised more than a million dollars since the annual event began 14 years ago.
Amanda Nelson, internal director for the 2019 Dance Marathon executive council, said the goal for this year’s event is $216,000. The funds will be used for the construction of four emergency room suites in the new wing of Children’s Hospital in Omaha.
“We need the community’s help in reaching our goal,” Nelson said. “One hundred percent of the funds raised go directly to the Children’s Hospital.”
