In response to the threat of COVID-19, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is offering a spring semester room and board refund to students who, by March 24, opt for an early checkout from campus residence halls.
The university announced March 12 that it would be canceling classes the week of March 16 and transitioning to remote teaching starting March 30. The announcement also included encouragement for students living on campus to return to a place of permanent residence to increase advantages of social distancing.
Under the newly released policy, students in university residence halls that complete checkout by March 24 will receive a 60% prorated refund of room and board costs between March 15 and the end of the spring semester.
Students who do not inform University Housing of a desire to vacate by March 24 and choose to do so at a later date, will be given a refund prorated to the remainder of the spring semester.
The university, including residence halls and dining facilities, remain open to serve students who cannot vacate campus housing. Other support services, including libraries and computer labs, remain open. Some services may have limited hours and social distancing measures are being followed.
As spring semester courses will continue via remote access options, the university will not offer refunds for tuition or student fees.
