Gildersleeve retirement reception is June 14

A retirement reception for Sue Gildersleeve, director of University Housing, is 3 to 4:30 p.m. June 14 at the Willa S. Cather Dining Complex. Remarks are scheduled for 3:15 p.m.

Gildersleeve is retiring July 1 after 36 years of university service. She first joined Nebraska in 1982 as network comptroller for Nebraska Educational Telecommunications and was the assistant director for business services in the Division of Housing from 1986 to 1994. From 1995 through 2000, she served as assistant general manager for administration and finance at NET. Gildersleeve returned to University Housing in 2000 as associate director for business and administration. She was interim director of housing from January 2011. Tthe interim title was dropped in August 2011.

While under Gildersleeve’s leadership:

  • Housing has consistently ranked at or near the top in resident satisfaction and learning among peer institutions on the nationally-administered student housing survey.

  • Housing implemented a residential program specifically designed to support international students. A dedicated staff member and team of student staff members personally greet every new international student with 24 hours of arrival and provide special events and programs for international students throughout the year.

  • The university built and opened three new residence halls and the Cather Dining Complex. Gildersleeve also served as housing’s chief financial officer during construction of three other new residence halls, and the full renovation of five residence halls and three dining centers.

“I’ve most enjoyed working side by side with so many committed colleagues across campus who work every day to help make sure our students have every opportunity to reach their fullest potential as contributors to our global society,” said Gildersleeve.

The reception is free and open to the campus community.
