Fun, fellowship shine as Huskers celebrate 2024 eclipse

Hundreds of Huskers gathered across the University of Nebraska–Lincoln to celebrate the 2024 solar eclipse on April 8. The eclipse covered about 80% of the sun over Lincoln. Campus reaction was captured in the video, photos and social media posts below.

Looking up

Loukia Sarroub, chair and professor of teaching, learning and teacher education; Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction; and Jessie Herrmann, director of government relations, posted about the excitement of the Solar Social as the peak eclipse time approached.

Nirupam Aich, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, thanked colleagues Rajib Saha and Shudipto Dishari for urging him to get out and see the eclipse.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln's main Twitter/X account, UNLincoln, celebrated the day with photos showcasing the eclipse and declared the experience to be a 10 out of 10.

And, Nebraska men's basketball used the eclipse to deliver a spectacular tribute to Keisei Tominaga, who won the NCAA men's three-point contest on April 4. The victory marked the last time the senior officially wore a Husker uniform.

The Office of Sustainability is collecting used eclipse glasses through the April 12 in Canfield Administration Building, Room 59. More than 700 were collected following the events on City and East campus on April 8. The Office of Sustainability is working to donate all glasses collected to an organization for use during a future eclipse.
