Nebraska Medicine at University Health Center, in partnership with Campus Recreation, will host Check Up From The Neck Up, a free mental health screening event for University of Nebraska–Lincoln students Oct. 5.

These brief, confidential screenings are an opportunity for students to assess how they are handling stress and their daily life. They will meet with a professional for a brief consultation done in a private setting to discuss their results and get helpful tips on maintaining their mental health.

All students are encouraged to attend.

Check Up From The Neck Up will be offered at:

  • Nebraska Union, Regency Suite, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, third floor, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Campus Recreation Center, atrium, from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Mental health is just as important as physical health,” said Aimee Grindstaff, marketing strategist for Nebraska Medicine at University Health Center. “Our hope is that the event sheds light on this fact and helps shatter the stigma around depression and other mental health concerns on campus.”

The Association of Students of University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Campus Life and Safety Committee wrote Senate Bill 2 Sept. 27 to show their support for the event.

As an extra incentive to participate, everyone who gets screened at the event will be offered the opportunity to enter a prize drawing for one of 10 $20 Starbucks gift cards.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to build awareness around this annual National Depression Screening Day event by using the university’s official National Depression Screening Day Facebook profile frame or use the official NDSD Snapchat filter. The filter will be accessible on Snapchat Oct. 4 and 5 in and around the Union, the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center and Campus Recreation.
