Thomas Fraatz, assistant professor of practice in the Department of Classics and Religious Studies, will open the 2026-27 CAS Inquire lecture series with “What Happens to Those Who Lived a ‘Good Life?’” at 5 p.m. Sept. 8 in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center’s Ubuntu Room (Room 202).
Fraatz’s talk, subtitled “The Invention of Afterlife and its Alternatives in Ancient Judaism and Early Christianity,” will explore the development of afterlife beliefs in Jewish religious thought and their legacy in early Christianity. The event is free and open to the public and will be available via Zoom. Registration is available here.
The 2026-27 CAS Inquire series theme is “The Future of the Good Life.” Four additional talks featuring faculty from biological sciences, geography, history and communication studies are planned throughout the academic year, followed by a panel discussion in March.
