UNL museums and galleries will offer extended hours and free admission on Oct. 3, as part of the First Friday Artwalk. In addition, each location will offer one-of-a-kind entertainment to accompany the exhibitions on display.
Great Plains Art Museum will host a family-friendly art scavenger hunt themed around artworks on view in both galleries from 5 to 7 p.m. The scavenger hunt is appropriate for school-aged children and grownups. Stick around after the scavenger hunt for a make-your-own popcorn mix.

The International Quilt Study Center & Museum will host a free public lecture from UNL lecturer Michael Burton. The lecture, “On a Knife’s Edge: Animating Oral History” is at 5:30 p.m. in the museum’s reception hall. Burton’s work with painted animations explores the stories and histories of people and places in America. The lecture is being held in conjunction with a display of Native American Star Quilts on display in the museum’s first floor gallery. The museum will be open from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Sheldon Museum of Art’s First Friday reception celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with focus on the exhibition of “Daniel Chauche: Visions of the Future Past in Guatemala.” The extended hours are 5 to 7 p.m.

UNL’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications Jacht Ad Lab, the student advertising and public relations agency, will host the Lincoln Ink Showcase. The show will present tattoo creations from the local and talented shops of Seven Seas and Mojo’s Dermagraphics & Design. The event will be held at Jacht Ad Lab, 151 N. 8th St. lower level, in Lincoln’s Haymarket from 6 to 9 p.m. The artwork featured at the First Friday show will be artwork from the tattoo shops’ artists, along with “live canvases,” clients of the artists who will proudly show off their tattoo body art. Also at the show, there will be a video created from Jacht videographers with exclusive interviews from the artists and live footage from their shops, as well as tattoo photography, food and refreshments.
