Fireworks light up the night sky during the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's 150th Charter Week Celebration on Feb. 15. The event was part of the university's yearlong observance of its sesquicentennial in 2019.
While much of America prepares to celebrate the Fourth of July this week, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is taking a moment to look back on its 150th anniversary fireworks celebration in February.
The display — which is part of the university's sesquicentennial celebration in 2019 — capped a weeklong observance of the charter that established Dear Old Nebraska U on Feb. 15, 1869. The seminal document was approved in a single day, broke new ground for the Morrill Act and traces its roots to Thomas Jefferson.
