Nearly 8,000 high school students, advisers, parents and guests will be in Lincoln April 3-5 for the 91st Nebraska FFA State Convention.
The convention will feature a number of events and activities including educational sessions, workshops, career fair, leadership academy, interviews and leadership skills events. Most of the events will take place on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s East Campus, at Pinnacle Bank Arena and at downtown hotels. University faculty and staff coordinate many of the events and contests.
FFA is a nationwide youth organization that prepares members for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. The organization is not just for students who want to be production farmers. FFA helps members explore and develop their own unique talents and explore interests in a broad range of agricultural career pathways. FFA members are future biologists, chemists, veterinarians, engineers, entrepreneurs and professionals in many career fields.
Combined, there are 189 FFA chapters across Nebraska.
One of the highlights of the convention will be a signing ceremony, 2:30 to 3 p.m. April 3, for current senior FFA members who have committed to Nebraska. All seniors planning to attend the university are invited to participate, regardless of chosen major. Several university leaders plan to attend the festive celebration to welcome new students to campus.
Following the signing ceremony, more than 1,300 FFA members will attend “Big Red Rock the Rec” from 3 to 5 p.m. at the City Campus Recreation Center, 841 N. 14th St. FFA members will be able to participate in recreational activities including rock climbing, cycling, table tennis and more.
