Faculty and staff at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are being sought to host Fulbright fellows at their home this summer for dinner and conversation.
The fellows will be in Lincoln for the Fulbright English for Graduate Studies Program from July 6 to Aug. 3. Sponsored by the Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education, the program is designed to help international fellows develop language skills and knowledge of culture in the United States that will help them excel in graduate degree programs.
Approximately 30 participants from more than 20 countries and 16 majors will be on campus for the four-week period before they start degree programs in various universities throughout the country.
As part of the cultural component of the program, the university is seeking faculty and staff volunteers willing to host 2-3 fellows at their home, similar to the Dinner in a Nebraska Home program run by New Student Enrollment.
This opportunity will allow the host family to learn about other cultures, as well as help the fellows learn more about family life in the United States.
To register, contact Barb Fuller at bfuller2@unl.edu 402-472-8868. Those interested will then receive a survey to help them be paired with fellows.
A brief introductory session will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. July 12, where faculty and staff participants can meet their assigned fellows and discuss specific dates for the home visit. Visits should take place between July 13 and August 1. Host families are asked to provide transportation from and to their residence.
