University Libraries is partnering with Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics to offer the Big Ten Academic Alliance Data Viz Championship. The event is an opportunity for students and faculty to showcase data visualization skills and compete for the title of champion during Love Data Week (Feb 12-16).
To prepare for Love Data Week celebrations across Big Ten campuses, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will choose a local champion by Jan. 24 to compete against the other BTAA champs on Feb. 16.
“The competition anchors Love Data Week in celebrating all things data by bringing people together to share their experiences and also have fun,” said Jason Casey, director of Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics.
The challenge offers faculty/staff and student divisions. Each participating institution can submit one entrant in each division for the final competition. The student competition will use the Lego Brick Database and faculty/staff submissions can be any work-related visualizations that are publicly accessible. Submissions must be sent to Casey via email to jcasey10@unl.edu by Jan. 24. The UNL submissions will be judged by a panel of faculty and staff.
To prepare for the challenge, a workshop will be offered at 1 p.m. Jan. 22, by Ryan Caldwell, senior associate director, data management and decision support analytics. “Getting Started With Tableau” is for anyone interested in learning how to use this powerful data visualization tool. Registration is required for the workshop.
The University Libraries have created a Libguide with more information about the competition and will also conduct additional workshops to help you do a better job of loving your data, no matter your discipline. Find them on our calendar.
